My Favorite Skincare Products

Hello beauty aficiandos!

Fall is here, the air is getting drier, and skincare routines are becoming more high-maintenance. When it comes to skincare, there are a few products that I actually swear by. My skin is on the dry side, so I completely get the importance of good quality skincare. A proper moisturizer has the power to transform skin from being dull and flaky, to hydrated, dewy, glowy and perfect. My favorite skincare products range from toner to exfoliator. With that being said, here are 3 skincare products that I absolutely love!

1). Evan Healy Blue Chamomile Day Moisturizer

Source: http://www.google.com51xvwq0lpll

This moisturizer is super rich, creamy and luxurious. It is a bit heavy for those who have oily skin, but dry-skin-gals like myself will come to love this moisturizer. I discovered this product from my aunt, who looks incredibly young at the age of 47. This creamy moisturizer contains blue chamomile, carrot seed, organic lavender, artisian-distilled yarrow flower and leaf, green tea, elderberry flower extract, calendula, and argan, jojoba and sunflower oils. This moisturizer is perfect for those who want to boost their skin with a surge of moisture.

2). La Mer The Lifting Contour Serum

This serum is amazing. It literally contours your face! It contains a blend of a special formulation used by La Mer, called “The Miracle Broth”, as well as other skin-boosting ingredients that slim the jawline and generally make your face appear thinner. It also makes an excellent primer.

3). Caudalie Beauty Elixir

Source: http://www.google.com

I absolutely love this stuff, and use it both as a toner, as well as a setting spray. It is inspired by Queen Isabelle of Hungary’s Elixir of Youth. It is formulated with moisturizers like rosemary oil to simultaneously moisturize your skin.

So there you have it! These skincare products are absolutely divine and will definitely pamper your skin.

How to Prevent Makeup from Looking Flaky

Hello Love Doves!

The season of dry, flaky skin is approaching, and there is nothing more frustrating than the appearance of flaky, caked-on makeup. I actually suffer from this issue. I used to have dewy, flawless skin, and everyone would complement me on it – until one day. I suffered from a major breakout on my face, and after a trip to a dermatologist, who informed me that it was stress-induced and prescribed me antibiotics, as well as acne cream, the breakout cleared up, but left me with dry, flaky, patchy skin. After that, applying foundation/concealer, even super-hydrating tinted moisturizers like Laura Mercier’s cult-classic became a nighmare. My skin would end up looking horrendous, and my boyfriend even asked me, “Have you forgot how to apply makeup?” Needless to say, it was humilating. However, after doing some research, I found ways to combat this problem, and now my foundation appears smooth, even and flake-free. So, if any of you suffer from dry, flaky skin that results in the appearance of caked-on foundation, here are some very helpful tips that will allow your facial makeup to appear flawless.

1). Exfoliate

Before I had the problem with extra dryness, I never used to exfoliate. Exfoliating will remove the layer of dead skin that is causing your makeup to appear flaky, revealing a smooth, clear surface of fresh skin. Exfoliating can do wonders for your skin. I now exfoliate 3-4 times a week, using either St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub or Nip + Fab Glycolic Scrub Fix.

2). Always Moisturizer before Applying Foundation

This may seem like a no-brainer, but moisturizing is an effective way to combat dry, flaky skin. Just make sure not to use a petroleum-based moisturizer, as this will just sit on your skin without being properly absorbed. I love Nip + Fab’s Kale Fix Moisturizer because it is easily absorbed by your skin and has many skin-healing properties. Also, look for ultra-hydrating serums, like Evan Healy’s Rosehip Treatment Facial Serum.

evanhealy_rosehip_treatment_facial_serum_blue_large_23). Use Men’s Aftershave Balm

Yes – you read that correctly! Men’s aftershave balm has the power to dramatically moisturize your skin. In fact, Nivea Men’s Sensitive Post Shave Balm has been dubbed as the world’s best foundation primer by a wide array of beauty experts. Men’s aftershave balm is intensely moisturizing and is absorbed very easily by your skin. It contains a high concentrate of glycerin, which is a skin-binding agent. This explains why it makes such an effective foundation base. I swear, after using aftershave balm, I was able to apply my foundation without any unsightly flaking or caking. If you have dry, flaky skin, you should definitely give this remedy a shot.

4). Use Beauty Tools Instead of your Fingers

Whenever you have dry skin and apply your makeup with your fingers, it usually doesn’t blend very well. With that being said, opt to use a beauty tool instead, like a brush or beauty blender. I recently picked up a beauty blender and can definitely see what the fuss is about. This tool blends your makeup like an absolute pro!

5). Use a Mask

If you have dry and flaky skin, consider applying a face mask at least a couple of times a week. A good quality mask has the power to deeply moisturize and revive your skin. I love Fresh’s Rose Face Mask – I was given a travel sized gift from Sephora for my birthday and have been restocking ever since. This mask is deeply nourishing and luxurious.

So there you have it! These 5 tips will allow you to flawlessly apply your foundation like a pro, without the dreaded caked-on effect. Also, be sure to check out my giveaway!

Sephora Makeup Haul

Hello lovelies!

Summer is officially over, and it was time to make a trip to Sephora to pick up some Fall goodies. Whenever I go to Sephora, it’s exactly like a kid in a candy shop – I can’t get enough and I want it all! And whenever mother says “no” (or in my case, my wallet), I argue, “But it’s my favorite!” One can only dream of winning the lottery and having the ability to indulge in weekly Sephora hauls. As for me, I try to stick with every season (and sometimes every month or so, whenever I tend to get greedy!)

So here is the end result of my Fall Sephora haul:

The products consist of the following:

1). Too Faced Natural Matte Palette

Pardon the cat hair. After purchasing the original Too Faced Natural Palette last year, I became hooked on the Day look, consisting of the shades “Heaven”, “Cashmere Bunny” (gotta love these names!), and “Sexpresso”. It’s the perfect natural look, and the colors complement each other excellently. However, my favorite shades started running out, and I had plenty of the shimmery ones left, so I opted for the matte palette, which includes the Day look I can’t get enough of, plus two other looks, the “Classic” look, consisting of the shades Lace Teddy, Strapless and Risque, as well the “Fashion” look, consisting of the shades “Nudie”, “Honey Butter” and “Chocolate Cookie.” I instantly became obsessed with the Classic look. What I liked most about the Classic look was the fact that the shades applied on the lid and crease are similar, resulting in a well-blended, seamless finish, without the heavy crease effect. The verdict? Definitely worth purchasing!

2). Too Faced Candlelight Glow Highlighting Compact

This highlighting compact allows you to capture the glowing radiance of a candlelit room into your everyday beauty routine. It uses “Photolite” technology to refract light and minimize the appearance of imperfections while providing skin with a healthy, radiant glow. The verdict? I liked it – it really does give you the candlelit effect, but be careful with applying too much of the product, as this can result in a caked-on look.

3). Benefit Hoola Bronzer

I discovered this while viewing Kylie Jenner’s Sephora beauty haul, and as much as I hate to admit it, I trust her when it comes to makeup. This bronzer is literally perfect. It gives you a natural contoured look, which is a rare characteristic in most bronzers, particularly drugstore bronzers. What I love about this bronzer is the fact that it’s matte, as shimmery bronzers often tend to look unnatural and over-the-top. This bronzer can either be used to contour, or all over your face and decollete for a sunkissed look that is described as “TANtastic”. Works for me!

4). Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturizer in Bisque

I’m 21 years young now, and I’ve been loyal to this tinted moisturizer since I was 15. I love how it provides you with effective coverage while still managing to appear natural. It also provides your skin with a beautiful, radiant dewy glow. This tinted moisturizer is a bit pricey, but definitely worth the splurge.

5). Clinque Quickliner for Lips in “Beige Plum”

This is a pretty, very natural looking color. However, it barely looks like you’re wearing anything, which can either be a pro or a con, depending on how high-maintenance your makeup routine is. As for me personally, I prefer a natural look when it comes to lipliner.

6). Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in “Lolita”

I was surprised to even find this liquid lipstick in stock – I usually have to order it online because it is always sold out! This cult-classic is a darker nude shade, and I feel like it looks amazing on every skin tone. This lipstick is definitely a steal.

7). Bvlgari Omnia Crystalline Eau De Toilette Mini

I actually picked up this scent by mistake, but was pleasantly surprised. This perfume’s scent is light and very fresh. However, it does not stay on for more than 30 minutes, which was a major bummer, since this scent was really starting to grow on me. Other than that, this is a good one for those who like a fresh, natural scent.

So there you have it! This was my Sephora haul. What is your favorite splurge from Sephora? Let me know!

DIY Lip Plumper

Hello beauty junkies!

So I recently took a trip to Sephora on the hunt for a good lip plumper. It seems like big lips are a thing now – everyone’s loving the look, and I’m noticing a lot of chicks wearing a ton of lip liner lately, and I can probably attribute this to Kylie Jenner. However, beauty lovers on a budget simply can’t afford to throw away thousands of dollars on lip fillers. During my trip to Sephora, I picked up a Too Faced Lip Injection Extreme, and I wasn’t as impressed with the results as I hoped I’d be.

Source: http://www.google.com

This had me thinking, “is it really worth spending up to $30 for a product with mediocre results?” Anyway, I had a light bulb moment, and thought to myself, “What if I could just make one myself?” So, I did some research and came across a few recipes. The results? They were actually no worse than this pricey plumper! I really liked the old Mother Plucker lip plumper, but I can’t seem to find it anywhere these days! Here is a natural yet effective DIY lip plumper recipe:

What you’ll need:

First, you’ll need a base, or a carrier oil to start. I personally love using either cocoa butter or lanolin (lanolin is used as a primary ingredient in a variety of pricey lip treatments, and really isn’t that pricey itself – I buy mine at Whole Foods), but there are many other options you can explore (you can also get creative and mix them together if you really want to embrace your inner exotic goddess), including liquids like vitamin E, sweet almond oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, apricot seed oil, or solids like vaseline, bee’s wax, shea butter, or coconut oil.

Next, you’ll need your active lip plumping ingredients. Here is a list of natural yet effective lip plumping ingredients:

  • Clove Oil
  • Cinnamon Oil or Powder (the most popular active ingredient)
  • Cayenne Pepper (the second most popular ingredient, after cinammon)
  • Wintergreen Essential Oil
  • Peppermint Essential Oil
  • Ginger Powder/Oil
  • Black Pepper
  • Anise Oil

1). Potent Spice Lip Plumper

  • A heat resistant mixing bowl
  • A tube of some basic lip balm (I like Nivea’s a Kiss of Smoothness, or if I really want to get luxurious, Laura Mercier’s lip balm, which is already a mild lip plumper)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon oil or cinnamon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon clove oil
  • A small pot

1). Begin by filling your pot halfway with water. Place it on your stove and wait until it is simmering (not boiling)

2). Place the heat resistant mixing bowl in your pot.

3). Follow by twisting all of your lip balm out, and place it into the bowl. Do not discard of the empty tube! You’ll need this later.

4). Stir your melted balm product.

5). Add the cayenne pepper and stir the mixture well.

6). Add your cinnamon powder/oil and clove oil and stir very well.

7). Completely untwist your lip balm container, so you can pour in your entire mixture. You can also use a lip balm jar if you are unable to untwist your lip balm tube. This also makes a much more attractive, luxurious looking gift!

8). Let the mixture cool off. You an either let it cool off at room temperature, or store it in the fridge.

So there you have it! Pamper yourself with this surprisingly effective yet natural homemade lip plumping recipe. Enjoy!

Much Love,
